Candle Making Additives

Stearic acid
This is primarily used to give your colors a pastel, creamy appearance. Stearic acid, or stearine, is a byproduct of animal fat. Other similar substitutes include palm or almond oil derivatives. The recommended amount is about 3 tablespoons per pound of wax.

Luster crystals
Manmade wax polymers, luster crystals (polyethylene) will help your colors to come out brighter. It will also enable your candles to burn longer. The additive will cause your wax to become opaque. It is especially good for making white candles. Novelty molds will look better with luster crystals added.

Vybar
Vybar is a bodyfier that will help blend and suspend color and scent within the wax. Vybar is a polymer additive for scented candles.

Clear Crystals
Another polymer agent, clear crystals will harden and strengthen your wax similar to luster crystals. However, adding clear crystals will make the wax more transparent. When burned, candles will have a glow-effect.

Snowax
Snowax is similar to luster crystals. It will help your candle burn longer and will strengthen your wax overall. However, the colors will not be quite as bright, and the wax will be less opaque.
